Betcha

Support

Betcha is for friendly wagers between friends: "loser buys dinner", "gym 3x this week". It keeps an honor-system ledger of who owes what. No real money ever moves through Betcha.

Getting started

How do I sign up?

Pick a username and avatar, or continue with Apple or Google. You'll get a recovery code. Save it somewhere safe: with your username, it's how you sign back in on a new device.

I lost my phone or got signed out. How do I get back in?

Sign in with your username and recovery code, or with the Apple or Google account you connected. You can find your recovery code any time under You → Settings → Recovery code. If you've lost both, email us from the address above.

Is there a version for Android or a computer?

Yes, friends without an iPhone can use the web version at betcha.jaysonhelmes.workers.dev. It works with the same account.

Friends

How do I add a friend?

On the Friends tab, tap add and search for their username, or enter their invite code. Either way they get a friend request to accept or decline. You can turn off requests by code in the same screen.

What are crews?

Crews are groups of friends only you can see. When you start a wager, tap a crew to add everyone in it at once.

Wagers

What kinds of wagers can I make?

You can also split players into two teams, set start and end dates, and leave stakes empty to play for bragging rights.

What's a witness?

An optional referee. When you start a wager you can pick yourself or a friend who isn't playing. The witness calls the winner and rules on disputed check-ins, and their call is final. A witness doesn't play, doesn't owe anything, and it doesn't count toward their record. If a witness hasn't made the call within a week of being asked, the players can settle it themselves.

How do I settle a wager?

Open the wager and choose Settle it up (or Call the winner). Someone else in the wager confirms before any IOUs are created. With a witness, the witness makes the call instead. Races settle on their own when someone hits the target.

Someone's check-in doesn't look right.

Tap the menu on the check-in and choose Dispute. The poster can concede or contest it, and contested disputes go to the creator, the other players, or the witness.

How do I pay what I owe?

However you and your friends agree. Betcha doesn't handle money. Once you've paid up, the person you owe marks the IOU settled in their Ledger tab.

Safety

How do I report something?

Tap the menu on a check-in, long-press a comment (on the web, tap Report under it), or open someone's profile menu and choose Report. We review reports within 24 hours and remove content or accounts that break the rules. What you report is hidden for you right away.

How do I block someone?

Open their profile (or a check-in's menu) and choose Block, or check "Also block" when reporting. Blocking ends the friendship, and they can't find, add, invite, or poke you. You won't see their posts or comments. Unblock people in Settings → Blocked accounts.

Your account

Notifications or widgets aren't updating.

Check that notifications for Betcha are on in your iPhone's Settings, and choose which ones you get in Betcha → You → Settings. Widgets refresh every 30 minutes or so; opening the app updates them sooner.

Can I get notifications on the web version?

Yes. In the web version, open You → Settings and turn on Push on this device, then allow notifications when your browser asks. They arrive even with Betcha closed. On Android, use Chrome. On iPhone or iPad, first add Betcha to your Home Screen (Share, then Add to Home Screen) and open it from there. If you blocked notifications by mistake, allow them again in your browser's settings for this site.

How do I delete my account?

You → Settings → Delete account (on the web: Settings → Delete account). This permanently removes your account, check-ins, photos, comments, and ledger entries. See the Privacy Policy for details.
